The defect with this toy is cheap design. What is happening is the weights at the waist are support to spin, and lift the top set wings. This causes it to take off. There is a little plastic piece inside shaped like an 8. One side of the 8 is attached to a small round ball attached to the weights the round ball snaps into the top loop of the 8 and the other side of the 8 is attached to a plastic ball to the top wings. When off the weights hang down and so do the wings. When it starts the weights spin lifting up and they are suppose to lift the wings, since there attached to each other.

I had a look at the instructions and added the batteries, it does require 6 x AA batteries that are not included. Following the instructions I switched the charger unit on plugged the charging cord into the fairy and waited for it to charge. I is easy to tell if the fairy is charging correctly or fully charged as the instructions state what colour light for different things. Once the fairy was charged we took out the charging cord and switched the fairy on.
