Their tattoos and, for that matter, their stories are just getting started. The koi symbolizes strength and bravery. In the past, the color red was especially macho in Japanese tattooing because of the harmful pigments it contained. The sword represents knowledge and power, while Fudo Myoo binds evil with the rope in his left hand. Fudo Myoo is surrounded by flames, which represent cleansing. In Esoteric Buddhism, there are cleansing fire purification ceremonies to destroy negative energy during which this deity is evoked. Majima has a large, fearsome white Hannya mask and a white snake. Depending on the angle from which they are viewed, Hannya masks can express different emotions. In Noh theater, red Hannya masks are usually for lower-class characters, while white ones are usually for upper-class ones.

It's a visually appealing tattoo, but the man who wears it brings life yakuza 0 tattoo justice to the piece. Unlike most characters in the series, these two don't have an animal or demon for a tattoo, can anyone identify what exactly Kuze and Awano have on their backs or what they mean? ThePatrick 8 years ago 2. Kuze has Enma Japanese name for the lord of Hell in some Buddhist traditions on his back and Gozu bull-headed demon and Mezu horse-headed demon on his arms. I looked it up and Awano is supposed to have folktale hero Momotarou punishing the Red Ogre, but I can't find any good pics to back that up and am still waiting for my copy to arrive maybe Monday. Not only because of the intricate design and the great color scheme, but also because of how the game utilizes to foreshadow a lot of what happens between Kuze and Kiryu in the game, with one scene in particular being very awesome when you realize the thematic background of the characters and their tattoos.
