After moving from Manhattan to Los Angeles, Buhai began putting her unique sense of style to use at her new residence. As friends visited her home, which is heavily influenced by Art Deco and California modernism, word spread about her talent, and Buhai found herself devising interiors for tastemakers in the fashion and art communities. The designer says the transition from ready-to-wear fashion to custom-made interiors was a natural process. I may mix a Thonet chair, Oaxacan black pottery, an Eames screen, and an Agnes Martin print, and to me, that feels similar in the way the collections were designed at Vena Cava.
