If one could describe a person as ageless, it would be Fredrica. As I near my next decade in life, I am thinking more and more about aging. She is the only client who greets all my staff by name, brings chocolates or small gifts for them and pushes her way to the back studio to meet the goldsmiths who make her custom pieces. Even my son Ando asks, "Mom when are we having drinks with Fred again? She relates to everyone in a dear and playful way. Her stylish clothes and layers of ever changing jewelry bob and jounce about as she talks. She gets excited when we are designing a custom piece with her and even does a little jig if we nail an idea she likes. She has an amazing eye and knows how to wear her elegant, yet down-to-earth style any time, anywhere.

At Shibumi we strive to not only make the right choices for the gallery and our clients, but also for our planet the greater world around us. Here are some of the things we consider on a daily basis when making our work and curating our artists and shows:. Our studio and our featured artists all use recycled metals. There is simply no reason why a jeweler needs to work with newly-mined metal. Recycled metals are plentiful and easily sourced when one works with thoughtful suppliers who also make recycled metals a priority. We always research our stone sources to the best of our ability. Currently our studio sources stones from dealers with excellent reputations, who we have worked with for many years. One of our favorite stone dealers has gone so far as to build housing and factories for their staff so that they can ensure proper working and living conditions.
