I haven't been able to find a single reference to the hall, except protests about students on the BANG website! Does anyone know what the hall was built for, its age? I think there have been a few extensions to it since it was first built, but i'm not sure. The oldest part of The Hall Wow imagine having that whole place to yourself! Oakholme, now part of Crewe Hall, was built by the solicitor Benjamin Burbeary in and lived in by him and his family for the next 18 years. It was then bought by Thomas Wilson, a cutlery manufacturer, one of whose sisters married Frederick Thorpe Mappin. Thomas died in and his estate was sold in four lots. The house became the residence of the Leonard Hedley Burrows, the first Bishop of Sheffield, in but he did not like it and it was sold to the University in and became a hall for women students until When Crewe Hall was built in it became the warden's house. I didn't realise it had been halls of residence for so long, I thought it might have been used during a war for a soldiers' rest home or something. I didn't like the place though. Ned Ludd The social experience has been very good and it was easy to make friends with other flats.
Crewe Hall- best standard accommodation in the uni, good facilities and really nice gardens. Loads of single sex flats but was still a lot of fun. Great halls- everybody around, Edge convenient. Long walk to university buildings and lectures though- around 40 minutes. I lived in Crewe Hall in Endcliffe which is an older building separate from the main halls of residence. I had an older building and opted for the cheapest accomodation, and shared with 9 other mixed-sex flat mates and shared 3 bathrooms between 10 of us. Socially this was not a great place to live, because our flat was more like a terraced house with its own front door rather than sharing a floor or hall with other flats, so we didn't mingle with other Crewe students.

It took them over a MONTH to clear out a wasp nest next to our bathroom window, which we couldn't shut. Very poor communication with halls management, their maintenance line is always busy and will just spring replacement charges out of nowhere, even when the item they were replacing was broken anyway. You're about 5 minutes from the main Endcliffe area so you're a little more secluded, but there are some shops nearby. The internet is fast, though at some point rodents did chew through the cables, knocking out the wifi in half the building. Kitchen size was fine, but no living room, just a dining room consisting on one large table. Overall, quite disappointing. This is a review of a 10 person flat in Crewe.

Old building, nice gardens though. We had to share 1 shower between 10 It took WEEKS for this to be sorted due to "a backlog of cases" - Everything in the flat seems to break. With society meetings on site and residence life give it a go events always taking place, there is always something to do. Wow imagine having that whole place to yourself! Clean and practical facilities, my room had an en suite and was all I needed it to be, good location and good for being social. The room was good and the bar 'the edge' was fairly cheap and an excellent social location with good food. The flats are modern and well equipped, with en suite bathrooms with every room. Sign In Now. Good size room with en suite and single bed. Bring a fan I suggest. Furthermore, despite the size of the rooms, they felt spacious and homely and never did I have a problem with fitting all my stuff into my room. No social spaces other than kitchen in the flat or building, have to go to the main common room at the Edge across the field. Need a new account?
