Route 10 leads from Cerulean City to Rock Tunnel. The southern entrance exits onto the remainder of Route 10, leading to Lavender Town.

Rock Tunnel can be exhausting, so the player may need to bring a few extra items. Potions are a must with fifteen Trainers wandering around in the darkness, and Repels and Escape Ropes are also helpful. The area near the entrance is pretty linear. There are five Trainers in this area, along with a Revive in the southwest corner. Earn some battle experience , and take the next ladder. Three Trainers lurk in the darkness here. Loop around to the east to get an Escape Rope , then go north to find the ladder. Another three Trainers line this part of the tunnel. A Max Ether can be found in the north; north west of the picknicker, north east of the hiker. The final ladder is located in the northwest corner. Rock Slide is a strong attack that may make the target flinch. Only three Trainers left! Defeat the first two Picnickers, collect the Pearl to the west, and head south to the exit. There are a few more Trainers on the south side of Route 10 , but it is possible to avoid them by taking the eastern path.

If you picked Squirtle or Bulbasaur as your starter and leveled it up decently, you'll have little problem getting through. Those who picked Charmander as their starter will struggle though, as the Rock types here are super effective against Fire types, though its move Metal Claw should make things easier. Pick up as many Super Potions as you can in Vermillion City, as you'll be using them. If you don't feel like running into them, buy some Repels from Cerulean City. He'll only teach it once, and this is the most powerful Rock-type move in the game, so choose wisely!

You can access Route 9 directly from Cerulean City, but you need to use Cut to get through. There's nothing really special here, except from a ton of grumpy trainers just waiting to get their butts kicked. If you're looking for items, don't forget to grab TM40 Aerial Ace near the entrance it's right in front of the second trainer , as well as a Super Potion hidden under a "Cut-able" bush right next to the cave entrance at the end of this area. There is also a Burn Heal next to Hiker Alan.
