NAFC is broadly funded by consumers, health care professionals and industry.

The course is relevant to all forms of finfish aquaculture and covers a range of topics relevant to the welfare and product quality of farmed fish, including legislation and codes of practice, water quality, husbandry, fish handling and harvesting, and diseases and treatments including sea lice. We have also adapted the course to meet the needs of staff working in different sectors of the industry, including hatcheries, marine and freshwater on-growing sites, and live fish transport. Most recently we have started supporting candidates from the aquaponics sector, where fish and plants are grown together in the same system. Instead they can study this and other online courses on their smartphone or other internet enabled device at times and places that suit them. Online delivery is also allowing us to offer the training to students outside our traditional catchment area and we have seen a growing number of enrolments from throughout Europe and across the Atlantic.

All NAFC certifications and continuing education follow strict examination development and administration processes and requirements. NAFC provides professional education to health-fitness professionals in the industry, ensuring their credibility and value to clients, members, and even medical professionals. NAFC certification examination processes are managed by a psychometrician examination expert , who oversees cut score determination using the widely accepted Modified Angoff method and examination processes including yearly exam statistic reviews. Question writing experts develop examination questions using CLEAR Council on Licensure, Enforcement and Regulation standards and content experts review questions to determine level of difficulty, clarity, and relevance to the field. A psychometrician reviews all secondary certification examinations. NAFC uses examination statistical analysis and monitors evaluations from students to review course content and examination in an ongoing process through our IACET Accreditation requirements.
