Death is a seemingly young man with shoulder-length black hair. His typical attire consists of a black trench coat over a business suit. Throughout most of the series, he was drawn to be kempt. When his second personality state takes over, he becomes disheveled and looks more like an insane fanatic. Death suffers from dissociated personality disorder, which was caused by getting his second quirk. His first personality is the one he shows the most often and is the only one we know about until his conversation with the pro hero Virata. This first personality is calm and collected. He is always calculating what his next move will be and rarely ever shows any emotions. He is also a great leader, being able to bring people to his cause and successfully control one of the largest and most successful villain organizations in history. He keeps his second personality well-hidden and only lets it come out during his training of Wrath and when he is overcome with great emotion. This personality is loud and boastful.

The suit-wearing pro hero Sir Nighteye made his debut in My Hero Academia 's fourth season, and he died not long after that. Young wannabe superheroes are required to undergo training at hero academies, one of which is an elite institution called U. High School. High School boasts one of the best training programs in the world and has a faculty full of experienced superheroes. One of the faculty members is a superhero named Midnight civilian name: Nemuri Kayama who teaches modern hero art history and has a quirk known as Somnambulist, which gives her the ability to emit a sleep-inducing aroma. Unfortunately for Midnight, her time was limited.
