If you want to do something about the stock, replacement stocks for the are available. Just drill and tap the top, and leave the rest to the owner. Thankfully, the front sight comes off easily so you can always throw on a scope. A lot of the farmers I know seem to keep 22 mags in the oddest places, and they almost always end up with some rust on them.
