Although Dooku hopes this will allow him to rule the galaxy alongside Sidious, as well as eventually overthrow him, he is ultimately betrayed by his master who arranges his death at the hands of his replacement, Anakin Skywalker , falling to the dark side and becoming Darth Vader. Dooku's character and Christopher Lee's portrayal in the prequel films were met with generally positive reactions from fans and critics.

Thus marked the start of the Clone Wars, with both sides suffering heavy losses. In his bid to escape, Dooku rode a speeder to a nearby hangar but was followed by Obi-Wan and Anakin. The Separatist leader ignited a red-bladed lightsaber -- evidence that he had in fact turned Sith -- and struck Anakin with a powerful shot of Force lightning. Ready to finish the Jedi, Dooku stopped when he heard familiar footsteps: Yoda had arrived. The Sith claimed to be more powerful than any Jedi, but Yoda easily absorbed his Force lightning attack.

Not every fan-favorite bad guy has a red lightsaber on their hip, but it certainly helps to make you memorable. But out of all of the core Sith in the franchise, one has always been kept out of the center spotlight: Count Dooku. It seems a bit unusual to call Dooku by his Count title given that most Sith Lords go by their Darth moniker. Christopher Lee, who is particularly famous for his numerous performances as Count Dracula, undoubtedly influenced the decision to make his Star Wars character a Count as well thanks to his prominent back catalog. Sith bear their birth name as well as the name given to them by their master. This is why, despite bearing both names, Dooku is most often described as a Count in Star Wars. Many times there have been instances of out-of-universe preferences influencing decisions made in-universe within the Star Wars franchise. Samuel L.
