Following the breakout success of her first directorial effort, Booksmart , all eyes turned to what Olivia Wilde's second movie would be. Don't Worry Darling is an original psychological thriller developed by Wilde and writer Katie Silberman. Simply put, audiences were entranced by such a story. Did she immediately go to the authorities? Or, conversely, did she not make it in the end after all? We were void of these answers in the film, which is all the more reason why a sequel explaining how or if Alice rights the wrongs of these men would be a pretty neat idea. Were they also slain by their wives, or did they somehow escape? And, if the men did manage to escape, will they ever attempt to remake the oppressive simulation? Last but certainly not least, what in the world became of Margaret? Turns out, Kiki Layne, the talented actress who played Margaret, seems to agree.

They live in a s-era Palm Springs-esque desert suburb dotted with tidy midcentury modern homes. A cultish figure named Frank Chris Pine holds sway over the company town, which he has named Victory. Every day the husbands seemingly drive off to a bunker in the desert where they work on a super-secret project while their partners stay home to clean, cook, shop, and gossip. The audience may find it odd that all these perfectly coiffed wives emerge from their houses onto their shared cul-de-sac at the exact same time every morning to send their husbands off to work. She wanders into the desert, sees the bunker where the men work, and investigates. Over the course of the film, Alice argues with a series of men who dismiss her concerns as fits of womanly hysteria. Or maybe you saw saw the film and want to dig in deeper into what it all means.

Though the possibility of a Don't Worry Darling follow-up is questionable, the movie does set up a sequel which does not need to involve star Florence Pugh. The simulation story left many questions about what happened in the Victory Project and what comes next. This includes the somewhat ambiguous nature of Don't Worry Darling 's ending , which leaves the fate of Florence Pugh's Alice unclear after freeing herself from the simulation. That could be the story that a Don't Worry Darling sequel follows, but the movie also presented a different, albeit similar, focus for a potential second installment. While Don't Worry Darling focuses primarily on Alice realizing that the Victory Project is fake, she is not the first person to come to this conclusion. KiKi Layne's Margaret plays a pivotal role in the movie and is questioning the reality of life before Alice. However, the movie does not reveal what happens to her after she dies in the simulation. This is the perfect setup for Don't Worry Darling 's sequel, as it could follow what happens to her after exiting the Victory Project. KiKi Layne also said most of her scenes were cut from the first movie, so the sequel could also go back and show more of her experience in the simulation. There is little doubt that the movie's controversies would keep Florence Pugh from returning in any potential Don't Worry Darling sequel or spinoff.
