I have a hate-love relationship with this series but I always end up devouring each book because apparently this author puts straight up cocaine in this series. His story between him and Winter - ugh my heart. He was so alone for all his life until Winter came and found him in the fountain. Damon was sent to prison for 33 months, while Kai and William were sentenced to 28 months each for beating up a cop who was abusive to his sister. He has always been the fun one, the drunk and flirty one. But as dark as this book gets, there are so many moments both past and present that honestly made my heart burst at the seams with hope. Like Peyton, Leighton, or Drayton. It's tragic and gut wrenching and infuriating. Without giving anything away and being obnoxiously vague here this story is best read after Corrupt and Hideaway. This book hurt. He's scarred but he's not broken. Damon and Winter's story is so special, so layered, so complicated, so painful Penelope Douglas is a master of her art.

The friendships and family relationships are some of my favorite aspects of these books. Even though it took a lot to get to this point - he truly decided to take my heart with him. Damon and Winter's story is so special, so layered, so complicated, so painful He's always hiding, always watching - like a real predator. Lacey laceybooklovers. I've always admired Penelope Douglas' ability to make me root for an anti-hero, but I'm blown away by Damon. No, far from it and you want his friends to understand him and what he had been going through and was going through since he was a child. And just because Penelope is my number one favorite author does not mean I will back down from speaking the truth. I just loved how in the end, he wondered if he had a different up bring, if he was brought up in a loving home would he still be the man that loved to make others hurt so he would feel his pain. In my opinion, it is her best work to date!! Winter was such an interesting character. She was no nonsense person and never craved any attention from anyone except her ghost boy Damon. So that is my say on the matter. And it wasn't statutory rape. If you know me, you know just how significant that is.
