The Coffin Cheaters are an international outlaw motorcycle club that was formed in PerthWestern Australia, in City Crew Mc is a feeder club. All bar the Gypsy Jokers originated in WA.

The Coffin Cheaters were the first Australian gang to expand internationally. Events escalated over a five-day period where Selwyn Wharepapa, one of the leaders of the Perth Mongrel Mob, was injured in the bombing of the Mongrel Mob's metalwork shop with two kilograms of gelignite and the Mongrel Mob retaliated with attempted explosion at a tattoo shop linked with the Gypsy Jokers. The following night police raided three homes, arresting seven people, including Wharepapa in possession of firearms, baseball bats and drugs. Two days later, Wharepapa was shot in the groin in the Perth suburb of Swan View.

There are four reasons police wanted WA's best-known bikie banned from visiting licensed premises Statewide. First, Edward Horace Withnell had a "lengthy and serious criminal history". Second, he was a retired member of the Coffin Cheaters bikie gang and continued to associate with gang members. Third, police suspected he was involved in the supervision and management of Blue to the Bone - the Northbridge bar previously owned by his cousin's husband. Finally, they suspected he was involved in "serious and organised crime". That the year-old Mr Withnell is a retired member of WA's most powerful bikie gang is a notorious fact, as is his criminal record, which stretches back to and includes convictions for gang rape, armed robbery with violence and assault occasioning bodily harm. But almost all his convictions are now more than 25 years old and were considered by the Liquor Commission to carry "little weight". The police application was always going to stand or fall on the other two legs. And liquor enforcement division Det-Supt Jim Migro knew as much when he compiled the page police brief which detailed Mr Withnell's crimes, those of his Coffin Cheater brothers and a range of police intelligence about some of the more notorious incidents in WA bikie history.

The news of his death has left the community shocked and mourning the loss of a once influential leader. While the exact cause of his death remains unknown, his legacy within the gang and the wider community will not be forgotten. He rose through the ranks and eventually became one of the leading figures within the organization.
