His righthand man Kenneth Brown suffered a graze wound.
The gang is considered extremely violent and is known to engage in drug trafficking and distribution, in addition to other criminal activities. Its colors are blue, red and black. The Black Disciples are part of the Folk Nation Folks alliance of street gangs but are known to engage in violence with other Folks gangs such as the Gangster Disciples. The BD's also have a long standing rivalry with the Black P. In the mid's, the groups splintered off from the BGD's all having their origins from the original Devil's Disciples street gang from the 's. The Black Disciples. The Black Disciples BDs are the Chicago "folks" gang that gained international notoriety in by executing its eleven-year-old member "Yummy". While the GDs are structured like a corporate enterprise, the BDs are structured more like a religion where gang leaders are called "ministers". In other respects, the BDs are like many other American gangs in that this type of gang is able to exist over time only by the criminal exploitation of children. It all began with "King David", chief of the Devils Disciples. The splintering was due to the individual leaders. This profile of the BD's shows that even within the BD's a splintering has occurred. This gang phenomenon has also been seen in "people" or "brothers" gangs, like the Latin Kings, where the East Coast version of the Latin Kings has a completely different written constitution than that found in the original Chicago version of the gang. Given the natural way in which this splintering phenomenon occurs in gangs, it is theoretically possible to induce the same effect by the separation and promotion of leadership skills. We are not implying this should be done in the form of social engineering, but rather that conflict among gang leaders in the same gang also occurs naturally and predictably. However, rather than allowing the gang to "settle" its internal disputes, in a correctional setting it may be worthwhile to transfer out one of the members along with some of his most earnest supporters. This could potentially create a "schism", unresolved conflict in the leadership structure of the gang, and therefore provide the basis for a splintering effect. The theory that a smaller decentralized gang would be more "manageable" would be the basis for viewing the splintering effect as a positive development from a gang control strategy viewpoint. As of this writing, there may be as many as "sets" of the BDs throughout the Chicagoland area. Each "set" typically has 30 to 40 members, and is identical in the format of its organizational structure.
What is different is black disciples one of the BD picnics in was actually held in the State of Minnesota, thus members were transported across state lines, black disciples. These sections of Disciples were not very significant but worth mentioning because this was the beginning of BD settlement out west which we will expand upon later.
The Black Disciple history is indeed a fascinating history and a great story of how young pre-teen boys got together and formed an organization that would help fight against the civil rights injustices and wild gangs around them. We will start the story back in the year to the impoverished northern half of the Hyde Park neighborhood, the impoverished southern Kenwood area and in the Englewood neighborhood. In Hyde Park and Kenwood wealthier white greaser youths were bullying several black youths. Hyde Park had always enforced restrictive racial covenants in the earlier times but in the late 40s it was deemed unconstitutional; therefore, black families began to move into the older northern section of the Hyde Park neighborhood. By the later 50s blacks were moving into this area and southern Kenwood at a higher rate as this area became more affordable for lower income families. There were also white and black gangs from outside of Englewood, Hyde Park and Kenwood that invaded and bullied these youths. The creation of the Dan Ryan Expressway system that year was a contributing factor is forcing many black families out of their communities and into white neighborhoods like Englewood.
Phillips and his anti-violence workers were helping keep teenagers from fighting. The concept — to treat violence like a curable disease — has since spread to New York, New Orleans, Baltimore and cities abroad. Many agencies have adopted the strategy. But, after a few years of that, Phillips fell back. He was charged in with making heroin deals. According to federal prosecutors, he even brokered a deal on a CeaseFire phone.

The defendants were arrested Tuesday after a multi-year investigation, according to the Northern District of Illinois U. Attorney's Office. The arrests come as federal authorities beef up their presence in Chicago to target violent crime. They promoted violence. Several other alleged high-ranking members of the Black Disciples were also charged and arrested; including Clarence January, who allegedly leads the gang's "Dog Pound" factions; Kenneth Browns, who allegedly supplied the gang with drugs for distribution in Chicago; as well as Charles Knight, an alleged high-ranking member of the Gangster Disciples street gang, who is charged as part of the probe with supplying narcotics to McMiller's crew.

In July , Hoover claimed to have renounced his gang ties, ending his affiliation with the Gangster Disciples. Hells Angels Hell's Lovers Outlaws. Yummy got his name "Yummy" because he liked cookies so much. This left Barksdale in charge of the gang, until he later died due to kidney complications on September 2, White was not known around there and was wearing fancy clothes and drove a nice car. But King David Barksdale is the one regarded as the true prophet for these believers. It is common for parents to bury their children who have been members and claim "I never knew he was in a gang or I would have done something about it". One of the things they fear most is that they will be singled out by their own gang. Black P Stones and Disciples squashed their war in May of , and it lasted for days until May 8th. The BD's are typical in this respect: the members face "violations" for conduct or behavior that is a threat to the social solidarity of the gang organization. This is more than a "put on", young children like "Yummy" are routinely being killed over this kind of new modern gang-criminal-cult style organization.
In , a group of young teenagers from the Hyde Park , Englewood , and Kenwood areas of Chicago formed an organization known as the "Devil's Disciples". Barksdale's goal was to claim small gangs around the area, and turn them into factions of the Disciples. Soon after the alliance was formed, Larry Hoover and one member were charged and convicted for the murder of another member, and both received a life sentence in prison.
The obituary was by John Taylor. This could potentially create a "schism", unresolved conflict in the leadership structure of the gang, and therefore provide the basis for a splintering effect. Drug trafficking, assault, firearms violations, fraud, homicide, money laundering [5]. David Barksdale succumbed to his illness and died on September 2nd, Active Black Disciples Black P. Here is how one informant described the situation: "when they have meetings they call on someone to recite the prayer at random By Frank Main and Sam Charles. Figure 3. We have heard from several informants interviewed specifically for this BD profile that a BD chapter was intentionally formed in Milwaukee as well in the mid 's. Retrieved July 18, The BDs grew incredibly in the s and s decade as they climbed up to becoming one of the top 10 largest gangs in Chicagoland with members in other states and scattered all over the suburbs. ATF cited stores that most often sold guns used in Chicago crimes, then let them off easy. Figures 1 through 9 provide examples of the internal written documents of the Black Disciples BDs. However, no women are known to have had major positions in the BDs over a long period of time.
