I had a conversation the other night with a dear friend of mine. We had a few drinks and some hookahs, so our minds were floating all over the place. That was the motive to rewatch the Baratie Arc to reminisce the first years of our favorite show. A few episodes later we were both crying as we fully understood what Eiichiro Oda tried to say behind this multileveled story. One of the issues he tackles is power and strength. On the one hand is Don Krieg, an immoral man who uses any mean necessary to win, thinking that power is the ability to win, no matter what. He even uses this character to comment on some political issues that happened a few years ago, like the poison gas attack Saddam Hussein ordered on Southern Iraq in Eventually Luffy defeats him in front of his crew and the crew of Baratie, making an example for all, especially Sanji. Speaking of will, that is another theme in Baratie Arc that has a main role in the development of characters. Especially the will to follow your dreams. That act was so strong that made Zeff who had the same dream as a young man to dive into the sea and lose his leg, just for young Sanji to be saved and follow his dream. Later, when the two ended up on the rock, Zeff gave all the food to Sanji, as he thought he was worth living, just for the dream. That explains why Zeff was so mean to Sanji, he tried to push him away from the restaurant, so he could follow his dream. It is revealed that it was Sanjis obsession to repay Zeff kindeness that drew the two apart. Only when Sanji agreed to leave with Luffy we got to see an emotional moment between the Master and the apprentice that left us with tears.

Otherwise, he won't hesitate to kill them if they don't obey his orders. Loguetown Arc Warship Island Arc.

Netflix's One Piece Live Action series has successfully adapted the vast majority of the East Blue Saga and received overwhelming responses from the fans, the vast majority of which are positive. The showrunners have done incredibly well to adapt every single arc, even though there are slight changes here and there when translating them to live action. The Baratie arc, which many hold in high regard, is no exception and went through several changes when being adapted into live action. While the live-action version of the Baratie arc is certainly very fun, it is also very different from the source material in many ways. The first major change that is apparent to every fan when it comes to the Baratie arc is the involvement of Don Krieg. Fans know Krieg to be an extremely important character, given that he is the main antagonist of the entire arc. In the source material, Krieg comes to Baratie to eat after his defeat in the Grand Line.

And it can go a long way to explaining how a live-action One Piece can do well on its own terms. But outside of those major beats, most of what happens between their arrival and Sanji becoming a Straw Hat is pretty different between the manga and the live-action series. In the manga, the majority of the arc revolves around the Straw Hats and the fighting cooks of Baratie facing off against the dreaded pirate Don Krieg, who was once the commander of 50 ships and 5, men before almost all of them were lost on the Grand Line, the most dangerous stretch of ocean in the world. But when Krieg orders Gin to kill Sanji, the pirate refuses to turn on his savior. For that act of mutiny Krieg tries to kill Gin, but winds up getting beat by Luffy in the process. The Baratie Arc is classic One Piece at its best. It explores what motivates its colorful characters and what they find important. The backstory we get on nautical restaurateur Zeff and the loyal Sanji shows us their complicated and very sweet relationship — and then it gets a mirror-image parallel with Gin and Don Krieg.

Shortly into the journey, they run into Zoro's cronies from his bounty hunting days: Yosaku and Johnny. These two don't add much to Zoro's character or the story, but the moment they cross, their path is surprisingly poignant. After initially clashing, Johnny backs down because his buddy cannot continue to fight due to scurvy. Nami quickly remedies this issue with some citrus, highlighting her diverse knowledge and skills as a crewmate. While accompanying Johnny and Yosaku to the floating restaurant, Baratie, Luffy accidentally damages the captain's quarters and injures the head chef, Zeff. In proper One Piece fashion, Luffy proceeds to wreak havoc as he attempts to make up for the indiscretions by working in the kitchen. Zeff tries his best to adapt to Luffy's nonsense to gain compensation for the destruction and teach Luffy a lesson. He is stuck taking care of the dining room since the wait staff abandoned the restaurant due to its dangerous location. Sanji's core characteristics are quickly displayed as he deals with a pretentious Marine lieutenant trying to put on airs. Lieutenant Fullbody tries to impress the stunning Moodie by lying about his wine knowledge, only to be checked by Sanji, who encourages him to eat his meal before it gets cold.

The Birds of Hermes. This leads to him taking several more hits from Gin, after which his body can't even withstand the force of his own attacks. Later, he returns with his captain to take over the place, however, in the end, cannot bring himself to kill the man who saved his life. Kyutai Panic Adventure! Curb-Stomp Battle : Zoro with three swords and every muscle in his body vs Mihawk with a dagger in one hand. Sanji's ambitions are respectfully inherited from Zeff, as the cantankerous head chef saved Sanji from starvation when the two end up stranded on an island. While the live-action version of the Baratie arc is certainly very fun, it is also very different from the source material in many ways. In fact, many people come to their restaurant to watch the cooks and pirates fight. In the source material, Krieg comes to Baratie to eat after his defeat in the Grand Line. Despite this act of kindness, when Gin leaves and returns to his ship, he tells Don Krieg about the Baratie.

The Baratie is an ocean-going restaurant [1] run by Zeff. It is the setting of the Baratie Arc.

World's Strongest Man : Don Krieg considers himself this, but while he is strong, he's nowhere near close. The two end up stranded on a small island where it's impossible to fish for food due to the island's topography. With that, Luffy, Sanji, and Yosaku take a boat and head off to go catch up with the others. As the commotion dies down, Sanji secretly serves Gin some food, saving him from death. Honor Before Reason : Despite how dangerous Don Krieg and his men are, and despite point blank telling the Baratie staff that once his crew has eaten they'll be taking their ship, Sanji and Zeff still decide to cook for them since they know first hand how horrible starvation is and wouldn't wish it on anyone. Sanji packs his belongings and takes one final walk around the Baratie before heading out, giving a tearful goodbye to his mentor and fellow chefs. Determinator : Not even being unconscious will stop Krieg from proving he's the strongest! This leads to the Baratie staff, and Zeff crying, with Zeff stating that men shouldn't cry when they leave. Instead, Sanji is seen whipping up a dish of his own using bluefin tuna, and later on, he goes on to break a fight between Fullbody and Galley. However, the tide turns back in Krieg's favor when his second mate, Iron Wall Pearl arrives. By the time their fight starts, Gin is fighting at full strength while Sanji has numerous broken bones from fighting Pearl. Despite Zoro's efforts, he is defeated, but left alive, as Mihawk wishes to fight him again someday. Return to Sabaody Fish-Man Island.
