It takes place at an unspecified elementary school being investigated by Yuta and Maki for paranormal activity involving missing children. Following Yuta Okkotsu's introduction to his fellow first-year students at Tokyo Jujutsu High , their teacher, Satoru Gojo announces their afternoon practical jujutsu class will be conducted in pairs. Toge is paired with Panda and Maki is paired with Yuta, much to her displeasure. Yuta notices Maki's attitude and gets nervous and embarrassed that she doesn't want to work with him. Maki can tell Yuta was bullied and knows he's been passive his whole life so she calls him out on it. She doesn't believe he has what it takes to get through Jujutsu High but Panda and Toge stop her from being too harsh. While getting berated he was nervous and sweating, but Yuta calms down thanks to Panda. He tells Panda that it's okay and admits that Maki is right. Gojo brings Yuta and Maki to an elementary school where kids have been going missing. Gojo takes Yuta and Maki to an elementary school where two kids have turned up missing. This immediately spooks Yuta and he asks why they would investigate something like that. Maki explains that schools are paranormal hotspots so a curse manifested on its own and abducted the children. It's the jujutsu students' mission to exorcise the curse and rescue the kids. This doesn't help calm Yuta and neither does Gojo walking away from the scene after casting a curtain.

In the main series, Yuta and Maki are second-year students. She also says that not yuta and maki is resistant to curses like him and suddenly starts feeling woozy. Some fan works are dedicated to this similarity like this art.

Jujutsu Kaisen was originally published as a short manga series by Gege Akutami well before the name "Yuji Itadori" meant anything to anime fans. If this synopsis sounds familiar, it's because Akutami's one-shot was later retconned as a prequel to the weekly Jujutsu Kaisen series that fans know and love today. Volume 0 is full of incredible settings and characters, but none stand out quite like Yuta — not even Panda. Anime-only fans of Jujutsu Kaisen may not have recognized the name Yuta Okkotsu when the Volume 0 anime film was announced, but they'll surely recognize the young man when the film debuts. During the second opening sequence of Jujutsu Kaisen 's first season, Yuta looks back at the viewers with his trademark katana strapped tight to his back. Even some manga fans could have missed this short cameo, but once Jujutsu Kaisen 0: The Movie releases, fans won't miss this Yuta cameo again. Unless, of course, they skip the opening sequence altogether. Anime-only fans have yet to meet Yuta Okkotsu, but their familiarity with Tokyo Jujutsu High will make it a bit easier to introduce the young sorcerer in Volume 0.

The short answer is that yes, Maki does have feelings for Yuta in Jujutsu Kaisen 0. This is mostly because Yuta treats her like an actual person, as opposed to her family who treats her like a powerless mistake. Where they chide and dismiss her due to her not having any Cursed Energy or Cursed Techniques, Yuta applauds her for going after her dream despite these hurdles and admits to wanting to be as strong as she is. His asking Yuta what breast size he prefers is meant to get him to say he likes the same size that Maki has, and get the ball rolling for them both to act on their feelings for each other.
