The focus is a sort of "target memory" meaning that the focus can be set then recalled with simple macro commands. Furthermore, the user interface supplies full real-time updates for the currently stored focus, including health and mana updates and enemy casting bars. I asked this on the forums and I got pushback for some odd reason from people who couldn't even come up with a reason beyond their awful habits they made from the first few years of wow. Seriously I do believe a lot of this functionality optimizations in the game are held back by blizz's own internal test groups who feel regularly complacent with things as they are. Which the latter I have no fault with doing and have easily way more than most but that's because I believe the base UI not talking about aesthetics just lacks in so many things.
