For big game hunters, deer and elk are front and center! Here in Washington both opportunities kick-off for archers in September. Deer opens on Sept. This post builds on the foundation and resources therein. As spring brings new life to the landscape for all wildlife, in turn, deer and elk populations increase with fawns and calves celebrating their long legs and enjoying lush, abundant food sources. As spring is squelched by the summer heat, tender food sources of spring mature and begin to dry up, causing ungulates to shift their diet toward other foods and proximity to water sources.

I am currently in the Army stationed in Alabama. I am about to be stationed at Ft. Drum, NY. I can't physically scout new places to hunt. I have never hunted on the West Side before and don't know much about the areas over there. I am sick of hunting the East Side for elk with my bow and am planning on switching to the West Side and hunting with my bow so I can bugle for bulls. That is half the fun of elk hunting for me, bugling for bulls. On my freetime what little I have in flight school I have been doing a decent amount of research as far as harvest reports, searches on this website and ALOT My Dad just bought a bow and plans on hunting with me next year but he is busy and spends most of his time out of state as well so he can't physically scout an area just like I can't. The only thing I can do is do map and internet research and hope I pick a decent area and then scout it during elk season.

There are many different kinds of lands in Washington; state, federal, tribal, military, and private lands all have their own rules and restrictions about where and when hunting may be permitted. The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife offers a variety of tools to help hunters follow the regulations throughout the state. With more than half of the state's land in private ownership, WDFW forges agreements with private landowners to open their land to hunting. Each year, WDFW wildlife biologists consult their local sources and contribute personal observations about hunting prospects throughout the state. There are a number of hunting and wildlife-viewing blinds throughout Washington that are accessible to people with disabilities. Finding productive places to hunt can be a challenge. The Eastern Washington Pheasant Enhancement Fund is used for pheasant habitat enhancement on public and private lands.
