Founded in by a group of mutual friends and players with a common passion for the game, it is currently the oldest rugby league club in Victoria. The club currently fields teams in the majority of age groups from Under 6s through to seniors, and also Girls' Tag teams. Home games are played at Fregon Reserve in Clayton, Victoria. The club was founded in as the "Waverley Rugby Club" by a group of mutual friends and a group of dedicated players. The origin of the name came from the club being established in what was then the "City of Waverley".

The boys from Waverley have had to overcome plenty of adversity this year, demonstrating plenty of grit and determination to land themselves a Qualifying Final this Saturday. They snuck into second place on the ladder, only one point above the Werribee Bears in 3rd, with the Panthers now having the luxury of two bites of the cherry, with a preliminary final awaiting them should they fail to secure victory on the weekend. Waverley are a well-balanced side across the park, with their hard-working middle forwards leading the way for their exciting young prospects out wide. The experienced heads of Terry Constantinou and Brad Hill compliment the likes of Darcy Peel and Ethan Simpson, with that mix of youth and experience making them a tricky opponent for any side to face. With 11 tries and points halfback Marcus Kaponga has led the way for the Panthers this season, showcasing his ability to win a game off his own back in certain moments throughout the year. They got the job done against the Bears by two-points in Round 9, before then following it up with a last-gasp victory against the Warriors in Round 10 to show they were the real deal this season. The Centre structure was originally made up of several affiliated Clubs, most attached to the local schools in the Waverley area. Athletes paid a small one off registration fee that was paid upfront upon registration, with an additional 10 cent fee paid per athlete per attendance. It was up to individual Club Team Managers to organise their Clubs athletes and supply officials on a weekly basis. Clubs used to marshal in groups around the hill closest to the South Football Oval. The original Waverley Centre uniform, that was worn at meets outside the Centre, was a blue t-shirt with the number 34 imprinted in white. At the Formation Meeting, there was mention of approximately 16 Clubs that would make up the Centre, however those additional clubs were not formed. The Panthers Club was made up of several smaller schools that could not establish a Club of their own.

After two Covid disrupted seasons, the Werribee Bears are finally back playing finals football in It's been far from smooth sailing this year with injuries and unavailability taking its toll on the club at certain points during the season. A stat that underpins just what Bears rugby league is all about. Werribee Bears captain Tiani Kani was full of praise for her side, crediting their resilience and ability to take on any challenge thrown their way. Werribee will be looking to draw on all of their experience when they take on a young Altona side this Saturday.
