Watch dogs legion gameplay art director Josh Cook and lead game designer Mathieu Berube played through about 30 minutes of Watch Dogs Legion at E3, as you can see in the video embedded above, posted by UbiCentral. The footage shows the devs playing through and narrating several different missions and using Watch Dogs Legion's three different character classes: the Hacker, the Infiltrator, and the Enforcer, giving us a better understanding of their abilities.

In the gameplay we see stealth, third-person shooting, driving and, of course, hacking. The hook with the game is you can play as everyone. Every Londonder is simulated and can be recruited into your team, complete with an origin mission and voice acting. It sounds pretty ambitious! At one point, we see a granny infiltrate Scotland Yard with a small spider mech, but she was pretty handy with a taser, too. She's a retired assassin, apparently.

Watch Dogs: Legion is bringing new meaning to the "ragtag group of misfits" cliche. With no traditional protagonist in Legion, I'm playing as a collection of random London citizens that I can swap back and forth between whenever I want. My team includes a construction worker who wears a reflective vest and carries around a giant wrench, a hacker who remote controls a cute little spider-like robot, and an ambulance driver whose most interesting ability, as far as I can tell, is that he can play the guitar. It feels more like I've put together a book club or a weekly board game group than a team of dangerous, shadowy operatives who are going to take back London from the oppressive forces of evil. And I love that. It's a fresh approach to hero building and hopefully storytelling in a game that otherwise felt pretty familiar during the three hours I played last week. In Legion you're free to approach any citizen you see in the world and recruit them to the hacker collective DedSec, though typically you'll need to do them a little favor first.

Watch Dogs: Legion is the third entry in Ubisoft's near-future sci-fi stealth sandbox game. Watch Dogs is set in an unsettling vision of the future, controlled by a cabal of corrupt corporations, in a nightmarish always-connected world that examines the extreme possibilities that could emerge as we continue to indulge in tech and convenience at the expense of privacy. Watch Dogs: Legion is set in London, where virtually every aspect of society has been privatized, run for shareholder profits rather than good service. As you might expect, the populace is on edge, as tensions between the establishment and the impoverished reach fever pitch. In the middle is Deadsec, the hacker collective framed for terror attacks across the city. Not only must you fight to clear your name, but you must also work to dismantle the corrupt regime, and discover who was really behind the terror attacks taking place across the country. We went hands-on with Watch Dogs: Legion at a recent remote press event with Ubisoft and came away thoroughly impressed and hungry for more. There's a school of thought that Ubisoft's open-world formula is getting a bit repetitive, but Watch Dogs: Legion aims to spice things up with a unique approach to playable NPCs, and a multi-layered approach to its sandbox.
