We recently visited Panama City, Panama. While the financial district is ordinarily quieter than Casco Vieja, for the two days of our stay it was almost a ghost town. It was a holiday weekend and the country was also in the midst of political turmoil, so many of the buildings near the Waldorf were boarded up. The hotel is dignified and lovely and civilized, but it is impossible to compare the vibe of Casco Vieja to that of the financial district. Our room, called a Junior Suite, was sort of a trapezoid in shape. It was luxuriously designed and had plenty of space, a separate seating area, a desk and a terrace. There was a Nespresso coffee machine as well as a mini-bar in the room as usual, we asked housekeeping to remove the items for sale from the mini-bar. The bathroom is also an interesting shape! It is also very nice and spacious, with a double sink, shower and tub, and a toilet behind the shower. The balcony is narrow but pretty. You could see the surrounding large buildings and even the ships in the water waiting sometimes weeks to pass through the Panama Canal. The hotel has two restaurants, Matiz and Peacock Alley.

Prior to booking this hotel, I had enjoyed two fantastic stays using Hilton Points at the Conrad Maldives. At the time, this had been my most aspirational use of hotel points ever. At the Conrad, St. Regis or Park Hyatt you need to either get very lucky or pay a supplement, beyond your initial points outlay, for a villa with a proper overwater pool. Standard rooms, bookable on points, range from Garden Villas to Overwater villas with tiny plunge pools — the size of a bathtub.

Toward the end of our stay, we began mentioning that something was out of stock as soon as we noticed so to expedite its replacement.
