It was clear from the beginning that the Johannes Vermeer retrospective at Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam was going to be a smash hit.

I got the email this morning from the Vermeer exhibition at the Rijksmuseum for next spring announcing that tickets are now on sale. They are 30E which also gives you admission to the Rijksmuseum in general. We've got our tickets for 2 different visits, one day at 9am starting time and on another day at 3pm. I'll be there mid-March. But then it goes back to The Hague, which is only an hour away. The Mauritshuis is certainly worth a visit as well.

And indeed, the show sold out within days of its opening on February This has sparked a hot resale market on eBay, where tickets for the show are being sold for hundreds and even thousands of dollars. As tickets remain unavailable many weeks after the show opened, mark-ups continue to spiral out of control. That marketing strategy has certainly worked. Those were mostly tickets for April and May. The Rijksmuseum does not endorse re-selling of tickets and cannot guarantee the validity of tickets purchased outside of official channels.
