Having no friends other than his pet Devil Pochita, a dog-like creature that is also a chainsaw , and having sold several of his own organs now to survive, Denji seemingly has no hope of a future.
The suits are actually a kind of "armor" of sorts, being bulletproof and in most cases, can protect the wearer from fatal attacks. Brain Drain : The Public Safety agents who don't die on the job or quit the business entirely tend to move into safer devil hunting jobs in the private sector. The ones who stay long-term tend to either have a genuine interest in protecting the people, want revenge against devilkind, or just love fighting. Bulletproof Vest : Their suits are durable enough to let Aki survive the same attack that cut Denji in half. Creature-Hunter Organization : They're the government agency in charge of hunting dangerous devils. Freelance Devil hunting for profit is also legal, so Public Safety has to coordinate with private hunters to keep civilians safe without overlapping targets. Makima, the series' first Control Devil, revealing her true nature. Her first incarnation to appear in the series is Makima, Denji's domineering caretaker and love interest who is eventually revealed to be the Big Bad of Part 1. Following her death in that saga's climactic battle, her next incarnation is the young Nayuta, who plays a supporting role in Part 2 and becomes the closest thing Denji has to family. As such, this Devil has been the second most influential one in Denji's life behind the Chainsaw Devil himself, whether as a friend or a foe. While initially coming across as kind and generous to Denji, Makima then displays some more The ending of the chapter cinches her manipulative nature when she quickly figures out that Denji is attracted to her and begins work to give him hope at a chance to date her. Chapter quickly establishes Nayuta as a mixture of Makima and Denji, with her walking in the front door with braided hair like Makima and dog leashes at her waist, at which point she calls Asa "thief," and immediately attacks her, showing that she's still the Control Devil and that even a healthier upbringing still can't stop some of Makima's dangerous flaws from emerging.

Chapter 72 is mostly just Aki having to babysit Denji and Power, but it ends with him doing the unthinkable and back out of joining the expedition to kill the Gun Devil, a revenge he's been wanting since he was a child. Good Old Fisticuffs : He can actually go toe to toe against Quanxi in a fistfight. After a while, the two develop an Odd Friendship , and one of his last acts of free will is desperately trying to save Aki from Makima before falling under her spell as well. Foil : To the Control Devil whose eye and hair color he inexplicably shares, and whose powers have left him similarly isolated. This sends him into an existential crisis. And it works ; Kishibe eventually finds the reincarnation of the Control Devil with no memory of her life as Makima. Power is a deconstruction of the Cute Monster Girl : sure she looks like an attractive teenage girl, but she still thinks like a devil - namely, having zero respect for the value of human life, any kind of moral or social norms, traffic laws , or even personal hygiene. Which is turned against him when Reze bites it off to get the edge over him during her assassination attempt. Backup from Otherworld : Aki manages to kill the Ghost Devil by displaying no fear, rendering himself invisible to it. Give him the blood he needs however, he's in top form, shredding through Devils like butter. Chekhov's Gunman : She's primarily comic relief but ends up being important to the final step in Denji's Character Development. Moral Myopia : Much like Katana Man wanting to avenge his grandfather's "death" at Denji's blades, some of his henchmen want revenge on Denji for killing their friends. By contrast, Fumiko right off the bat is lecherous towards the underage Denji, molesting him, forcing him to perform humiliating acts on a Devil's corpse, and openly degrading him all in spite of claiming to genuinely like him, showing she seems to regard him more as a toy than a person.

Would Hurt a Child : The old man bluntly tells the young orphaned Denji that if he can't get them their money within the deadline, he will kill him and sell his organs and usable parts on the black market to get his money back, even claiming Denji should resort to robbery or prostitution if that's what it takes to get enough cash. However, the bubble isn't attached to anyone, making it impossible to tell if it was Asa mentally standing off to the side or Yoshida who noticed them. It'll let them leave the hotel if they give it Denji's heart. Hidden Depths : As much of a hedonistic, Hormone-Addled Teenager he is, Denji proves to be a surprisingly philosophical thinker. Body of Bodies : The Snake Devil has what looks a beak comprised of severed human arms. For the Evulz : After learning about the existence of the Angel Devil, she tracked him down and forced him to kill all his neighbors just because she wanted to see what his powers could do. Seconds after saying this, he's killed by Yoshida. While she gets better, Denji saving her life alone just makes her less of a jerk towards him. When he does return, he instead takes on the role of deuteragonist , his story shown parallel to Asa's and occasionally intersecting, at the cost of the Sympathetic P. Both are the second potential Love Interests for Denji in their respective Parts, and both are equally straightforward in their attraction to him after both Makima and Asa had been stringing him along though Asa has somewhat of a good reason to. Card-Carrying Villain : The Zombie Devil itself called the yakuza morons for trusting something as evil, dangerous, and self-serving as a Devil. It's left to our imagination if it came from the gunmen or his partner. Chapter Makima: Denji, you're going to open that door and I'm going to kill Power. Chapter Chainsaw Man fighting his way through hordes of Devils in his original "hero of Hell" form and successfully escaping from Hell on his own.
