I always charge my laptop on my desk and always have it connected so I can use it the next day. I understand that smart charging turns on automatically, but I also know that there is a way to turn it off through the Surface app, but it isn't showing up. I am aware of the problem you're experiencing with your Surface device in which the option to disable smart charging is not showing in the Surface app.
