A last is a solid piece of composite or wood, that defines the shape of the boot. How boots fit depend on how similar your foot is to the last. Lasts can vary dramatically from manufacturer to manufacturer. Some lasts will have more length, some will have more bulk, and some will have more of an arch. Truman uses two primary lasts: the 79 last and the 20 last. The 79 last is used for the majority of our plain and cap toe boots, while the 20 last is used for all moc toes and the occasional plain toe build. The standard D width is very accommodating for most feet. In contrast, our 20 last is available solely in D width, features a more snug heel and a more bumped up toe. Both of our lasts run big by a half size, so the general recommendation is to size down a half size from your dress or sneaker sizing.
