One of Auckland's oldest steak restaurants for over four decades, Tony's Lord Nelson Restaurant takes the form of an old country pub, in which hearty suppers are never short of homey flavours and gallons of meaty gravy! We promised a traditional pub and that's what you'll get! Dominated by dark, heavy furnishings, vintage mirrors and quaint oil lamps, you wouldn't be the first person to think you'd stepped into the Victorian era! Endearing in its 'oldness', Tony's Lord Nelson has a pervading feeling of comfort and friendliness that'll have you donning a pipe and cape before you know it. Or go for traditional dishes from the original menu which features the likes of pork spareribs smothered in a moreish piquant honey and ginger glaze, chicken breast camembert which simply oozes naughty-but-nice yumminess and the lamb kebabs that are spiced to perfection.

Most main meals are served with either a fresh spring salad or fresh seasonal vegetables and potato croquette or french fries. We have long enjoyed a reputation for the best steaks in the city, careful selection and proper ageing of cuts, and dedication in cooking are our hallmarks. Choice pieces of prime fillet, gently grilled with pineapple, mushrooms, capers, tomato and white wine, on a sizzle plate. A classic, with the traditional buttery tarragon sauce. Best fillet, with a rich caper and blue cheese sauce. Traditional thick cut, stuffed with oysters. Wrapped in bacon, sweetly grilled garnished with pineapple. Lord Nelson started as a simple kiwi steakhouse over 38 years ago and has expanded ever since. This popular restaurant serves some of the best succulent steaks in town but also offers fresh seafood, lamb, venison and chicken. The attentive staff serves big portion, so make sure to get here with an empty stomach. There are many seafood restaurants around due to the coastal location of Auckland. This means the city always has a wealth of fresh seafood at its disposal. The dining area of this restaurant is simply amazing. I really like the olden style windows out front mimic the amazing olden interior. There is an alcove as you come in with an old-style cash register which they use for ringing up the bill. The booths were comfortable but I did feel like I was slipping out of my chair most of the time. The food menu is quite large and so trying to pick something was a bit hard. We ended up trying the venison kebab and I went with the Angus fillet with anchovy butter. The venison kebab was three huge cubes of venison served over rice. It was nicely cooked with a nice char around the edges along with the veges. I quite enjoyed the anchovy butter since it gave the meat an interesting flavour and nice saltiness.
