Biography Teaching activities Research activities Publications. His general research focus is the design of programming languages and software development environments. Dr Eavis's teaching includes courses with a focus on programming languages and system architectures. Eavis's current research explores issues related to the design of more approachable software development frameworks. The overarching objective is not only a reduction in the opacity and sheer scale of contemporary language syntax but, perhaps even more importantly, a concomitant reduction in the complexity, fragility, and inflexibility of the build environments meant to support these languages. Ultimately, the aim is to allow the developer to focus more fully on "what" an application is expected to do, rather than "how" one actually convinces a computer to do it. The eventual distribution target for the current work is the Open Source community, as opposed to imprisonment behind the customary paywall.
