Preamble : --Before you celebrate or groan, let me clarify that direct mentions of Jordan Peterson are only featured in one chapter, on parenting. This section of the book was the most interesting to me, because it certainly challenged a lot of my own materialist beliefs about medicine. The Myth of Normal is an ambitious and very long book. And now the market reflects it. There is a powerful and affirming lesson here on how trauma can be a result not only of what is given to us, but of what is withheld. Ok, so? Not sure I agree with the idea that there is no "normal" any more. The introduction is ok. Instead, find out what weirdness they excel at and encourage them to do that. Just a note: one of the most popular positive reviews of this book - which lays out its theses in a more detailed and better-organized way than mine - presents the book as the anti-Jordan Peterson, which is always a plus. I listened recently his book about the body saying no Godin is author of ten books that have been bestsellers around the world, and he is also a renowned speaker. I think the author seems like an interesting person. For example: The maternal mortality rate for Black women being so much higher than for white women.
