The Netflix hit created new opportunities for women of color. It also veered far too often into tragedy porn. When Orange Is the New Black debuted in , it was celebrated for its diversity. Its cast was filled with actors of color, it depicted many facets of the LGBTQ spectrum, and it featured actors of all body types without reducing any of them to punchlines. But most of the critics including me praising the show for its diversity were also white. The longer Orange Is the New Black ran, the more it was criticized by many critics of color for how it repurposed very real tragedies and traumas faced by communities of color for stories both written by and targeted to white liberals.

The band is broken up. After spending the final season dealing with life outside of prison, Piper finally "gets clean. During Season 6, Piper and Alex got married, but they struggled during the final season. In the end, Piper visits Alex in prison and the two are still together. We love a happy ending! Unable to deal with the severity of Lorna's mental illness, Nicky sadly has Lorna moved to B-block, where she's looked after by Red.
