Testing mercury stator
Your outboard stator is the "powerhouse" of your outboards ignition system. Most Mercury Outboard Stators perform two important functions 1. They provide voltage to your switchbox or CDM's. They charge your vessel's testing mercury stator s.
I have a Mercury 4 hp single cylinder that has no spark. I filed the points, soldered on new wires as the insulation was cracked. I had spark initially and then nothing. I did some checking and followed a how to video and have determined the coil is dead by checking with an ohm meter. The coil is expensive enough. But the cost of the stator far exceeds the value of this motor. Thank you for the article.

I get conflicting numbers all over the internet on what its supposedto read. I have this stator off a 3cyl force.. On the yellow circuit i get 1 ohm. Be advised that on many Mercury stators, there is a high and a low speed circuit. This one is no different. There are different readings for 90 and hp, 3 vs. The 3 cylinder 90 has only a red and a blue wire, not pairs of red and blue. The Red Stator was meant to solve the frequent black stator issues; and they did seem to do that. They were nothing but a tow job waiting to happen. Their info is probably very current, regardless of what OEM says. Still, I would toss a black stator as far away as I could. Skip to content 3cyl stator testing specs. Ask A Member. You are using an out of date browser. After checking the stator I found a burnt set of windings on a pod.
Testing my stator using a ohm meter my readings are. Between blue and red leads Also does the stator have to be installed on engine for this test and is this a good test procedure? If your readings are not within the range specified for your stator the part is bad. Replace it. I left out a little info on my 1st post, the numbers are from a new Mercury stator that I just got today to replace my old stator. My old stator numbers are

Are you noticing anything wrong related to the battery and engine? Therefore, you must detect the signs of a bad stator. The most common signs of a bad stator in a Mercury outboard engine are problems with engine activation, lack of power, and misfiring. Getting panic attacks? Thus, you can overcome them in the future. Besides, the maintenance tips will let you keep your stator in better condition. With the assistance of rotating components, the required energy passes through stators.

You can test each cylinder for spark without having to remove the spark plug. Outboard motors tend to have completely separate high voltage generation for each cylinder. Properly install your plug wires and battery connections. My motor serial number is 0G Since switch was funky anyway--it was sticky, even after spraying non conductive lube in hole--[the ignition switch was] replaced with new Mercury part. It is much more rewarding than dropping off a broken boat or car, or whatever , and simply writing a check when it's done. Log In. Then I start to pull plug wires when the engine is running, no. Generally outboard motors tend to have three sets of coils under the flywheel: --a high-current coil for the alternator. Glad to hear it! Log in. This is the second recent article in which an owner of a Mercury outboard motor with a running problem that has an onset at an engine speed range of above 1,RPM has speculated that the cause is a malfunction of the stator.
Your outboard stator is the "powerhouse" of your outboards ignition system.
Try swapping one from one motor to the other. I was told to install it, crank it down and if needed, smack it with a hammer to free the flywheel which I know is a big no-no This topic has 2 replies, 3 voices, and was last updated 2 years, 7 months ago by billw. Ok so I started my diagnosis and found something interesting on my yellow leads on the stator. There's resistors and switches involved in the ohmmeter. Thanks again.
