Tawna Bandicoot [2] [3] is a recurring character in the Crash Bandicoot series. She appeared in the first Crash Bandicoot game and later returned as a cast regular following the release of Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy. She is a feminine anthropomorphic bandicoot who was created for the series as the girlfriend of Crash Bandicoot , specifically serving the role of damsel-in-distress in the first game; Tawna's later appearances would alter or forego this aspect of the character. Tawna initially became absent from the Crash Bandicoot series starting with the release of Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back , as Coco Bandicoot replaced her role as the main female supporting character of the series following concerns from Sony Computer Entertainment regarding Tawna's appearance and personality.

Following the deaths of her friends at the hands of her universe's N. Tropy , she traveled between dimensions and befriended Crash and Coco Bandicoot in the main universe. As with her main universe counterpart, Tawna was affiliated with her universe's Crash and Coco. At some point, she lost her friends at the hands of her universe's N. Tropy N. Tropy F and fought against her on-and-off for years, just like Crash and Neo Cortex do in the main universe.

She was originally meant to be the series' leading female protagonist, but due to past controversy, she was ultimately dropped in favor for Coco Bandicoot. However, she still has made appearances within a few Crash Bandicoot games since then; her most notable ones being in the original Crash Bandicoot , it's remaster in Crash Bandicoot: N. After the titular protagonist Crash Bandicoot escapes Dr. Neo Cortex's castle, the doctor decides to attempt brainwashing Tawna Bandicoot using his Cortex Vortex device. She is held captive for most of the game until Cortex's defeat and she escapes with Crash on the villain's blimp. In an alternate ending, Tawna escapes with Crash on a vulture instead. Tawna does not make a physical appearance in this game, but the Japanese instruction manual for it stated she left Crash for Pinstripe Potoroo after he "made her an offer she couldn't refuse".
