What goes up must come down. That was the story of the figures during the two weeks of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale. The average price was also down by 18 per cent and the median back by ten per cent. The market was a long way away from where it was 12 months ago, and that rather set the tone for the nine sessions of selling over the last fortnight. Some 1, yearlings came under the hammer during the four Books of the October Yearling Sale, and 1, of those found a buyer for a clearance rate of 82 per cent.

The son of KODIAC has won and been placed since the catalogue was published, successful on 5th October at Lingfield over 7f and then third over the same course and distance yesterday. As ever this unique fixture, the largest and most popular of its type in the world, has attracted an extraordinarily diverse collection of buyers from all corners of the world and this has been reflected in figures which yet again demonstrate the enduring appeal of British and Irish horses in training as well as quality stock from France and Germany. Only ten years ago the sale recorded turnover a little over 20 million guineas, an average price of 23, guineas and eight lots selling for , guineas or more. Similarly success driven, although largely at a different level of the market has been the notable contribution from the numerous European buyers in particular Spanish and Italian buyers who have been busy from start to finish and have also accounted for more than 80 horses between them this week.
