This course will be a mini art school squeezed into an hour a week, tamu courses. We will have regular weekly homework assignments, and use most of class time to critique constructively.

RDCB - Foundations of Reading Hours: 3 This course is designed for graduate students in the emergency permit or alternative certification program seeking initial teacher certification. The focus is on the reading process and the factors that condition its development. The importance of reading in school and in life serves as a background for critical evaluation of the methods and materials of reading instruction. Special consideration is given to the essential components of research-based programs and the features of classrooms that support effective beginning reading instruction. The Core Curriculum is an essential element in the educational process that results in professional success, personal growth, and responsible citizenship. In this process, students have the opportunity to acquire knowledge, learn reasoning and communication skills, examine their goals, values, and potentialities, and develop an enduring commitment to learning through both formal and informal educational experiences.

All undergraduate courses offered in the University are described on each subject page. The course numbering scheme is as follows: —, primarily open to freshmen; —, primarily open to sophomores; —, primarily open to juniors; and —, primarily open to seniors. Figures in parenthesis before the course description indicate the Texas Common Course Number s. Those figures identified with an asterisk should reference the Texas Common Course Numbering System in this catalog for additional information. The unit of credit is the semester hour, which involves one hour of theory or from two to four hours of practice per week for one semester of 15 weeks. Figures following the credit hours indicate the contact hours per week devoted to theory and practice, respectively. Theory includes recitations and lectures; practice includes work done in the laboratory, shop, drawing room, field or other. When courses are cross-listed, credit cannot be received for both courses. Any course may be withdrawn from the session offerings in case the number of registrations is too small to justify offering the course. This will help students explore health-related careers, tamu courses, navigate courses at TAMUG, and how to become competitive applicants for the advanced programs of their choice. This will work in tandem with the transitioning of tamu courses from high school to college life by introducing critical thinking, civic discourse, and other necessary skills to help them in their classes.

Courses in this catalog are identified by a three- or four-letter subject code followed by a four-digit number. The second digit indicates the semester credit hour value of the course. The third and fourth digits indicate the departmental sequence of the course. Courses offered with writing instructive sections include WI at the beginning of the course description. The Core Curriculum enhances the individual degree program and university graduation requirements, and all three areas must be met by every student. Given the rapid evolution of necessary knowledge and skills and the need to take into account global, national, state, and local cultures, the core curriculum ensures that students will develop the essential knowledge and skills they need to be successful in college, in a career, in their communities, and in life. The University Core Curriculum requirements are described in the section that follows. Students entering earlier will be guided by the core curriculum in the catalog upon which they entered the university.
