The writing felt rushed and it felt like the publishers wanted to make money off of the fans of the Maze Runner. Uncomfortable in the hand. But here we are.

Something I sort of liked is that, according to my calculations, it's possible that the river they crossed was the Columbia River that separates Oregon and Washington, and I'm a fan of anything that has to do with geography I am familiar with. Series fans will not be disappointed by this return to a world where danger lurks around each corner. I rather expect to dislike this book, based on my feelings toward the original series with the exception of "The Maze Runner" specifically , but I have an almost morbid curiosity to see how bad it is--and maybe a tiny shred of hope that I'll actually like it and James Dashner's writing will be redeemed in my esteem. I thoroughly enjoyed the settings of the book, and it felt great to be back in another James Dashner story. Thanks for the review, Robin. It is a "media enterprise" and if that doesn't sound like a money laundering scheme, idk what does. There is still hope for you. But I couldn't connect to any of the characters in The Maze Cutter. The Maze Runner survivors' settlement is on an island Alaska the grandchildren are known as islanders. She didn't seem vital to the story, and she was incredibly annoying. Mark Deakins did an excellent job with the narration. But the characters in this one were so dry.
