As is obvious from the visual appearance of the show, there is a significant anime influence present, despite being produced for American television. The show also contains various references to pop culture, a notable example being the episode "Season of the Skull", which is an obvious parody of the s thriller The Wicker Man. This can be seen on the series' logo which now displays the Disney trademark above it in blue. The Super Robot Monkey Team is set in Shuggazoom, a city that takes up a good portion of its planet, also named Shuggazoom. The rest of the planet is called "The Zone of Wasted Years. The main character is a boy named Chiro. When he was exploring the outskirts of the city, he stumbles upon a giant abandoned robot. Once inside, his curiosity gets the better of him, and he pulls on an old, untouched switch, thus awakening the five robotic monkeys that form the Super Robot Monkey Team Hyperforce. In the process, Chiro also fused himself with the Power Primate, allowing him to transform into the brave fighter and bold leader of the team. With the aid of the five Robot Monkeys: Antauri, Mr. By virtue of the fact that Chiro was not a superhero from birth, the five Robot Monkeys must train him, which ultimately results in him leading the team. The Robot Monkeys continue to train Chiro, as he fulfills his destiny as protector of the universe. When fighting the larger enemies, the Hyperforce uses the Super Robot, which can split into six separate vehicles.
He falls head-over-heels in love with a female protagonist, Jinmay the robot. Although his talent with machines is unmatched, he is quite oblivious to everything else around him. At the same time, the humor in the one-liners appeals to a more adult audience.

Over the course of the series, he grows as a person and as a fighter, though uniquely compared to a majority of his contemporaries, Chiro actually starts the series already fairly adept at fighting. Chiro is the current leader of the Hyperforce. He's 13 part-way through the first season, he turned 14 in A Man Called Krinkle. According to his collector's card, he is a male weighing lbs and is 5' 7". He pilots the Torso Tank 1 , the Super Robot's torso. He lacks the paired weaponry of his team, however his role as their leader does technically entitle him to Mandarin's Sword and Shield gauntlets. Chiro is a young adolescent male with a slightly pale Caucasian complexion, black hair, and slightly dark blue-green eyes. He is roughly double the height of the monkeys, and less than half the height of the Skeleton King. His civilian attire consists of a long-sleeve shirt over top of a formal white button-up with a tie that matches his eyes, and a pair of blue jeans that also match his eyes with black and white sneakers. When wearing this and most other outfits, Chiro's eyes appear more almond-shaped, his face appears more angular, and his hair is styled neatly, with a combed fringe on the front.

Aurora Six is the ravishing female of the group that uses the Sun Gun, a weapon that shoots sun beams that stuns her enemies in a main attack called Sun Gun Dazzle Stun. And Johnny Sunspot is the kid sidekick genius who builds all of the team's weapons that wields special gloves that create dark energy orbs in an attack called Black Hole Blackout later Black Hole Barrage in his second appearance. When they join hands, the Sun Riders perform Super Solar Strike, a destructive team attack that's similar to a solar flare. The Sun Riders are known to ride on their Sun Cycles, and their own robot is called the Nebutron, an orblike Super Robot that is heavily armed. They have their television series, of which Chiro is an avid fan. However, they wanted to stop pretending, and in exchange for real power, joined the Skeleton King in the promise of destroying Chiro and the Monkey Team. They later return in Season 2, in the episode "The Sun Riders Return", apparently reformed and with a more powerful Nebutron ship - which they later sacrifice for the good of others.
