The problem is, Nintendo only tends to release one instalment of Mario Kart per console. When a system sticks around as long as the Switch, gaps between games can run pretty long. That's why Nintendo decided to meet us in the middle via the Booster Course Pass. I've put more hours into Mario Kart than I have any other Switch game 90 hours total , but my cartridge had been semi-retired until I finally took the Booster Course Pass for a spin. Back when the plans for more tracks and characters were initially revealed , I wasn't convinced I'd be sucked back in. When broken down into its six waves, the DLC doesn't seem like much. But as a whole, now all 48 additional tracks are here, it almost feels like that new game we've been waiting for. I am now back in the race, and just as Tears of the Kingdom was about to surpass Mario Kart for hours played, the mustachioed plumber and his new friends raced away again.

The eighteenth suit, which is the Daisy Mii Racing Suit, is unlocked by scanning Daisy's amiiboand is available to be scanned in regardless of whether or not the player owns the Booster Course Pass.

First announced during the February Nintendo Direct, the pack includes twelve additional cups , for a total of 48 additional courses bringing the total number of courses in the game to 96 , most of which are remastered versions of courses from other Mario Kart games, including Mario Kart Tour. The courses are based on their designs from Mario Kart Tour , but with significant visual improvements and new music arrangements. In addition to the courses, starting with Wave 4's release, the pass also features eight additional playable characters for the game, which also return from other Mario Kart games. The pass was released through six waves, with each wave containing eight total courses divided into two cups of four courses each. The pack marks the longest gap between the original release of a Super Mario game and the release of its DLC, with the first wave releasing nearly five years after Mario Kart 8 Deluxe did. The pack also makes Mario Kart 8 Deluxe the first Mario Kart game to feature classic courses from games following the original game's release, with Mario Kart Tour and its reappearing courses debuting after Mario Kart 8 Deluxe was initially released. The first wave of the DLC was made available to pre-load on March 15, , and was released in most regions on March 18, , while the final wave was released on November 9,
