When Stricklands, a beloved ice cream shop on Campus Drive near UC Irvine, closed its doors in after 15 years of service, local resident and regular patron Neil Liu was crushed. He and wife Stephanie, along with their two sons, had become devotees of the super creamy machine-churned concoctions and regularly walked from their home to try the always rotating flavors of the day. Previous owners Randy and Donna Nettles were forced to shutter the establishment on Dec. The closure was a hard pill to swallow for loyal customers, who formed lines so long the business had to close a day early. But years later, feeling uninspired by years of working as an executive, then a consultant, in the manufacturing industry, Liu decided to take a different path — straight back to Stricklands.

During his years as an Akron Pure Milk employee, Bill developed his own rich recipe of cream, eggs, sugar and other ingredients. With his formula perfected, Bill turned his attention to developing an ice cream machine called a "batch freezer" that would quickly freeze the ice cream, while limiting the air whipped into the product. The result is Stricklands' award-winning ice cream, frozen custard, yogurt and sorbet. The original ice cream store is still in operation today and so are the original batch freezers! After reverse-engineering our proprietary ice cream machines to produce the same great taste as the originals, the Stricklands Ice Cream franchise opportunity was launched.
