Main point of this project focuses in re-implementing proprietary as in runs-only-on-deck components that Steam client, steamos 3, OS itself, gamescope and user-created applications for Deck rely on and making me learn Linux in a fun and unique way.
SteamOS is a Linux distribution developed by Valve. It incorporates Valve's popular namesake Steam video game storefront and is the primary operating system for the Steam Deck , Valve's portable gaming device, as well as Valve's earlier Steam Machines. SteamOS was originally built as a client for video game streaming over a local network from a gaming PC and was later extended to support some on-device gameplay, with the intent for lightweight, upgradeable PC's, known as Steam Machines , to run SteamOS for game streaming and local play. Valve is working on a desktop version of SteamOS but it won't be anytime soon Not that it really makes a difference, it's still based on Arch so basically any Arch distro can give the same and better results with SteamOS in its current state. Garuda Linux is the easiest but with higher system resource cost due to performance optimizations taking up more RAM, and more bloat in the OS because it's prepackaged with everything you'd need for gaming. Well, it looks like that time is now, as SteamOS's 3. And while it has the Persona 3 Reload patches, it also has a lot more in it. There were improved handling of GPU crashes, improved frame presentation, support for new controllers, and tons of fixes that range from crashes to black screens for some games on OLED Decks Forza Horizon 4 and even some HDR fixes on some external DisplayPort displays. You can even now change the brightness of your status LED in the Display settings! Overall, this is a great update filled with some nice fixes that should make using the Steam Deck a bit easier.
