Characters are one of the two cosmetic features found in Specter, as this makes up the avatar they appear as when in a match. These characters are mainly male or female, with a few exceptions based on their appearance. Players start off as Michael, one of the four that players get when they first join the game, though can switch out for a different one when they open up " Inventory " and look through " Characters ". More characters will appear there if the player either gets them from the " Daily Store ", gamepasses, badges, or Season Passes. There are currently over 63 playable characters in the game, though 62 if players count one of the Outfits as a separate character. All descriptions are transcriptions from the game, and any spelling or grammar errors should not be fixed unless it has been changed in-game. The Starter Characters are four characters given to everyone when they first start the game. The Daily Store Characters are character that can only be obtained by the " Daily Store ", which rotates between 3 character every 12 hours. These characters can only be obtained from in-game cash that players gain when playing a match. Currently there are 32 characters that can appear in the Daily Store. The Badge Exclusive Characters are characters only obtained by completing certain badges. Most of them require players to complete the Easter Eggs exclusive to certain maps. Currently there are 5 characters and one outfit that can be obtained. The Gamepass Exclusive Characters are obtained from players purchasing the respective gamepasses with Robux.

Equipment are items within the game that allows players to either gather evidence, increase sanity, prevent a ghost hunt, or light up the area.
