After the universe came to be, the Big Bang forged the remnants of these singularities into six elemental crystals, dubbed the Infinity Stones, and hurtled them across the universe. After journeying there, Thanos and Gamora are greeted by a cloaked figure who turns out to be the long-missing Red Skull. Somehow he wound up on Vormir and learned about how to access the Soul Stone, only he was unable to obtain it for himself.
