Last Updated on March 8, by Lauren Melnick. After attempting the challenge in Bangkok and crushing it, I decided to try it out again in Siem Reap, Cambodia. When deciding where to stay, I always start with Booking. The most notable one being that time in India where I ended up sleeping on a rooftop. While I usually look at a couple of hostels, Sok San was the first place I found, and I booked it almost immediately. In short, it encompassed everything I wanted out of a hostel , and it was going to cost me a measly R 69 a night.

For my meal alone, I would have given a two or three stars. Strongly recommended! My wife was very happy with the smashed avocado toast.
During our stay in Siem Reap, we mostly ate on the streets and nearby eateries. Because of having a limited budget, food is one of the things we had to compromise when eating in Cambodia. We spent 3 days and 2 nights there but we did not starve ourselves during that trip. Average food costs around 2 to 2. Breakfast Meals in our Guesthouse Breakfast food were already provided during our stay in Bousavy Guesthouse so we saved a lot considering we had three meals in total. What I like best is that they always have a banana and some pineapple slices on the side to go with the breakfast.
Siem Reap is full of restaurants but where to find very simple, very cheap street food? They offer take-away, selling things like pancakes filled with banana or noodles. Around two years ago, plenty of street vendors set up with basic outdoor seating at the end of Pub Street, but with increasing development, bars and shops have taken their place. Though they may have disappeared from the very centre, they never disappeared entirely. Rather, they upped and moved to a street off Sivatha Boulevard. Heading away from Pub Street, turn left at the traffic lights where you see Park Hyatt Hotel on the corner on your left. With plenty of plastic chairs and basic tables, this is cheerful but not fancy.

There are so many reasons to visit Siem Reap, Cambodia, from Angkor Archaeological Park to the people, history and culture. Food is definitely one of those reasons, with authentic local food, tasty restaurants and delicious desserts. So here are all our favourite picks for where to eat in Siem Reap…. If you visit the Old Market before 8 am you will see an array of local food being cooked and devoured. We sat down and found an excellent Bai Sach Chrouk pork and rice. There are so many things to choose from here, but the experience and atmosphere make it something to remember. The street in front of the Old Market street 9 comes alive with street food stalls at night. Here we tried nom khrouk coconut rice cakes , leek cakes, lort cha short rice noodles and banana pancakes. So this is actually a small local restaurant, but a great place to come and try local food in a casual environment. Along this street, you will find lots of little street food stalls.

Easy to see why this place is very popular. We had fresh spring rolls and California rolls as well as a carrot cake yum and a fruit salad with coconut ice cream. Average food costs around 2 to 2. I tried tiramistiu and rum raisin. The menu is quite nice with a lot of options, but the prices were high and definitely tourist focused. Since visiting last year and again this year. My Little Cafe.

Will go back to try other flavors. It was average. The Sausages and Fried Rice were the best dishes which stood out for me. Service is friendly and they speak good English. The food was just basic overall despite the photos I took making it look appealing. I like the restaurant layout, very well decorated, especially the courtyard. I was mildly surprised by how well the basil actually complemented the dark chocolate ganache without being too empowering. If I only could I would give to Haven 6 stars in each category. The food and drinks are very delicious. Totally worth coming and just hanging out. While prices on the counter are both in local currency and dollars, it isn't the case on the main menu, which would have been nice to have. Other best of categories in Siem Reap. The cones are freshly made.
