Sid is a character in Flushed Away. He is an overweight sewer rat who ends up in Roddy's apartment one night after he is shot through the pipes while sitting in a pub in the sewers. He declares the apartment as his and tries to force Roddy to be his butler. When Roddy tries to flush Sid back, Sid outsmarts him and pushes Roddy in, flushing him down the sewers. Later when Roddy calls up the apartment, Sid has visibly made the apartment filthy, not caring for breaking things or cleaning up.

Sid is a sewer rat who arrives in Kensington out of the drain and he disappointed Roddy when he decides to stay. Roddy attempted to get rid of Sid by flushing him down a toilet claiming it was a jacuzzi. Later when Roddy realizes The Toad 's plan is to drown the rats during halftime during the World Cup as that would be the time the viewers and players would use their toilets , he has Sid flush him down the toilet again to get back into the sewers as everyone was in terrible danger, but not before letting Sid take his place at the house. The idea about rats that fall in love in sewers was created by animator Fell during the production of Chicken Run. In , Fell developed the concept into a story before pitching it to DreamWorks. The project was first announced in July , followed with comic writing duo Clement and La Frenais contracted to write the script, which had the working title Ratropolis.
