Sheffield Steelers have been forced to block over social media accounts after one of their players has been the target of online abuse. During Saturday's ice hockey game between Sheffield Steelers and The Nottingham Panthers, Panthers' player Adam Johnson tragically died in a 'freak accident' aged just He was accidentally struck by a blade in the neck during the game and the match was abandoned as the ice hockey star was taken to hospital. Following the horror accident, Sheffield Steelers player, Matt Petgrave, whose blade struck Johnson, has been the target of online abuse - despite the ice hockey community in Yorkshire rallying together in this time of need. Dave Simms, spokesperson for Sheffield Steelers, said the team has already blocked a high number of accounts following the abuse and claims they 'will not stand for it. Most of the comments are completely unrelated to Sheffield and Nottingham and hockey in general and most of them are from overseas.
