The Electronic Stability Control ESC monitors the speed at which the wheels are rotating as well as other parameters such as the steering angle. When you lose the steering control or traction, the ESC tries to reduce the engine power or engage the brakes to help you regain control of the vehicle. The ESC system does not work the same way on all vehicles. As such, it is always important that you refer to your manufacturer's manual to understand how yours works. Generally, the ESC light illuminates when the car is losing control and stays illuminated when a malfunction has been detected or the system has manually shut off. The simplest way to know why your ESC light is on is to take it to a certified technician for diagnosis. The technician uses a scanner to decode trouble codes from the brake control module, and within no time, you get to know what is ailing your car.

I was on the highway and I noticed the dash state "SERVICE ESC" and then less than 2 seconds later, all of the vehicle electronics died and the vehicle stalled - no steering control, lights, radio, blinkers - nothing worked. The vehicles electronics came back on after a very tense and nervous 20 or 30 seconds in a lane of highway traffic and i was able to place it into Neutral and push it the shoulder. After pushing it off the highway, I tried and tried to get the vehicle to start but it would not. I spoke with On-Star and they did not find any negative systems during the diagnostic check. Anyone heard or know anything about the ESC system causing total vehicle shutdown? Hopefully the dealer can get my vehicle back i to tip top running condition again! Thx for your time!

The message appears every time I start my vehicle but disappears when I press the check mark. GuruK8YRP answered 4 years ago. Service ESC came on out of the blue on a Chevy Equinox with miles this has the looks of a recall when they find out why this is happening NurzeJackie answered 4 years ago. Home » Brakes. But what exactly does an ESC light mean, and what should you do when you see it? But while stability control and traction control are often referred to together, they are not the same system. Stability offers additional features than traction control, including those that can help you in an understeer or oversteer situation. So, while an electronic stability control system will always incorporate traction control, not every vehicle with traction control has stability control. The ESC light is there to alert you when there is a problem in the electronic stability control circuit, or to tell you that your stability control system is currently in use. Some type of electronic stability control is required for all modern vehicles, however the type of ESC system the car uses depends on the car manufacturer.

Failing battery results in engine re-starting dragging down the voltage, which the computers don't like. In today's electronics heavy vehicles, I have experienced all kinds of strange faults, due to a weak battery. Even just one second stops. I shut the car off and restarted. Hubby took the battery for testing and they said it was good, just needed to be charged. Or is it remove the old and install the new battery? Of course, both include scanning the instruments and surroundings before moving, but that should be a constant step during any vehicle operation. AVS Forum. Thanks to all that have posted! That turned the lights off and allowed the back up sensor to work again, but now the autostop is causing a brief stabilitrak warning. Will be at a light, the auto stop kicks in and then the engine shuts off. I'd have it load-tested. They know it's the engine causing the issue. The Electronic Stability Control ESC monitors the speed at which the wheels are rotating as well as other parameters such as the steering angle. I will definetly be going to get my battery tested soon. Turns out the problem was that the Connector X2 of the active safety control module was not seated fully and locked into place. However, before you get there, below are a few hints on what might be wrong:. I did go with a higher CCA battery. Got my power steering back and all the warning lights went off. They replaced the transformer thinking iit would solve the problem. Thanks again for the reply! Even after the diagnostic test resulted in no problem found.
It is interesting. You will not prompt to me, where I can read about it?
