I've had trouble with these for years and done many things to try to get them functioning well, polishing the ramp, cutting a spring not advisable ,filing 'sharp edges', etc. Older posts detail these attempts. Anyway, 5 out of 6 just recently started to frequently 'catch' on the bolt and stop the cycle.

It is a shame, Savage went through the hassle of making threaded barrels and fitting the action with their "Tacticool" Boyds stock to make the gun something it wasn't, but for some idiotic reason overlooked the most griped about issue with savage model 64 mods whole setup. I think that one was filed down just a hair too much. Recommended Communities.

I haven't been able to find much of anything for the model I'll follow this thread though Browning SA22 be the cats meow. I wrapped my factory stock in camo gun tape, decent scope, and a bipod. Shoots great and cycles good with h.

These designs are basically sound at least the 64 is ,except for,of all things the feed system,and on a semi of course that is the ball game.

For what it's worth I had considered refitting a Marlin mag to it and I think it could be done. It worked OK with snaps but today at the range it still 'caught' the bolt and wouldn't cycle at all. The time now is AM. HATED the magazines and their cheap pot metal construction. Mine's been to the factory 3 times and still won't work, and they say there's nothing wrong with it. If mine was a dog I'd have never blinged it with a Boyd's Spike Camp stock. I am a bodyman by trade and i would suggest a two part bumper repair filler to keep it from cracking in a accidental drop or cold weather. The others were great.

I can get by with 9-rounds and I usually just load for 5-round groups anyway. Upgraded scope, bipod, Cheek riser and 1" slip on buttpad recoil pad to extend LOP. I added a micro-thin patch of JBWeld to the magazine housing. The sole purpose of this site is to provide an online community for those who wish to interact with other Savage firearm enthusiasts.
