I watched as they drove away, leaving me in the middle of Oman, with only one way out — through the kindness of strangers. But before I could return, I would be heading much further south. I smiled; I was back in the unknown, where every day would be an adventure. Salalah beckoned. The sun beat down and the air sizzled. A few cars passed, with a look of confusion or an upturned hand.
