Rupert Spira is a leading voice of clarity in contemporary spirituality and nonduality. From an early age, he was deeply interested in the nature of reality and the source of lasting peace and happiness. Rupert began to meditate at the age of 17 and spent the next 20 years immersed in the teachings of classical Advaita Vedanta. In he met his teacher, Francis Lucille, who introduced him to the direct path approach of Atmananda Krishna Menon and the tantric tradition of Kashmir Shaivism. After 30 years working as a ceramic artist and exhibiting worldwide, Rupert closed his studio in and now devotes his time to sharing the nondual understanding through his meetings and writings. He teaches in Europe, the United States, and online worldwide. In his podcast, Rupert engages in conversation with thinkers and leaders in the realms of spirituality, art, science, mental health and well-being, among other topics, about the innumerable ways the nondual understanding can be applied in our everyday lives. Just prior to beginning his formal spiritual exploration, Spira attended an exhibition by the studio potter Michael Cardew at Camberwell Arts Centre in London. In , Spira opened his own studio at Lower Froyle in Hampshire , then moved his studio to Shropshire in His pieces can be found in private and public collections around the world. Spira's early wheel-based pottery work reflected these early influences being in a very traditional Bernard Leach utilitarian style. This work is mostly practical in nature, taking the form of teapots , vases, vessels, plates and other culinary ware. In , he set up his own pottery at Church Farm in Shropshire where his style changed from a functional to a more minimalist, finer, more complex style ranging in size from miniature to large-scale.

Rupert Spira came across the poetry of Rumi at the age of fifteen, in , and soon after this met his first teacher, Dr. Francis Roles, at Colet House in London. Under his guidance Rupert learnt mantra meditation and was introduced to the classical system of Advaita, or non-duality, which formed the foundation of his interest and practice for the next twenty-five years. At the same time he also learnt the Mevlevi Turning, a sacred Sufi dance of movement, prayer and meditation. During this time he read everything available by the Russian philosopher P. Throughout these years Rupert also studied the teachings of Ramana Maharshi and Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj on a continuous basis.
