Google has so far confirmed that only a handful of current and upcoming smartwatches will be upgradeable to Wear OS 3 later this year. Wear OS 3 is set to bring a massive amount of improvements to the Android-powered smartwatches, not the least of which is an update to Android Given how different the new version will be from the existing Wear OS experience, most current smartwatches, including all watches powered by the Snapdragon Wear chip and earlier, will not be receiving the update. Instead, all of the currently available watches that will get the Wear OS 3 update — a trio from Mobvoi — are powered by the Snapdragon Wear chip. While the jump from Snapdragon Wear to had a noticeable impact on smartwatch performance, Snapdragon Wear was the most significant chip upgrade Qualcomm has offered for wearables in many years. This difference in performance is undoubtedly one of the reasons why those earlier smartwatches are being left behind by Wear OS 3.

Wena is Sony's wearable arm , and it doesn't make smartwatches, but smart straps for standard watches. If it's been merged with the company's mobile division — Sony hasn't confirmed or commented on this report — it suggests that we could see future smartwatches from the company, particularly under the Xperia name we haven't seen an Xperia-branded watch before. Commenters are speculating that this would be a Wear OS smartwatch — the Sony Smartwatch 3 from used Android Wear, which was the predecessor of Wear OS — but there's nothing solid behind this rumor. If you're a Sony fan, you might be getting your hopes up at these reports that the company is set to get back in the wearable game, since its past efforts were well received. But you should probably hold your horses. Second, even if we knew for certain that Sony was working on a SmartWatch 4, or a Sony Xperia Watch, new gadgets don't appear overnight — the company would need to spend a long time developing it.
