This code renders a map of reddit. Each dot on the map is subreddit. Two dots within the same cluster are usually close to each other if multiple users frequently leave comments on both subreddits. I processed ,, unique comments that redditors left in years - and computed Jaccard Similarity between subreddits. Then I treated relationships between subreddits as a graph clustering problem. Once clusters are computed, I treated them as a graph layout problem and created an SVG file. Along the way I strived for simplicity. I wanted to let people edit the SVG file, correct it, and contribute to the development of the map. There is a lot of things that I'd love to improve. But I want to know that this effort is not in vain.

Reddit map
Reddit Map is a project of computer, data, and social scientists to explore and visualize Reddit. The code that runs the web frontend is here. After you commit changes to our development mainline branch, main , you'll want to cut a release and publish changes for the world to see. We've setup a GitHub action to make that easy for you. Merge the branch main into publish. The publish action will take care of the rest for you, building the site static resources, syncing remote files, and dealing with HTTP caching. It will take several minutes for the build, sync, and HTTP cache invalidation tasks to complete. There are Gulp tasks that allow you to perform other actions, but most people won't need to use them if they're working directly on the application layer. You only need this if you're setting up an endpoint for the first time, or if the infrastructure configuration needs to be updated.

Instead, we focused on co-commenting: we decided that two subreddits are related if the same people often comment on both of them. Initially, we tried clustering by the content of the comments. Two crossovers, the R3 and R3X, will follow. Dismiss alert. Please share your suggestions and comments with me on twitter. Reddit is moderated differently than other networks Each subreddit has a team of moderators, who are volunteers from the community, who are responsible for setting and enforcing the rules of conversation. It is incredibly important to understand how big or small a particular conversation is compared to the bulk of Reddit as a whole. Two dots within the same cluster are usually close to each other if multiple users frequently leave comments on both subreddits. Once clusters are computed, I treated them as a graph layout problem and created an SVG file. Our ability to do that may depend on whether Reddit and Pushshift can find an agreement that allows Pushshift to keep archiving Reddit data. Like this: Like Loading…. Then I treated relationships between subreddits as a graph clustering problem.
