As one of the many beneficiaries of the love and insights from people on this sub, and even though I live far outside the American Mormon culture, I have literally been saved by the Mormon Stories podcast and the kindness and wisdom of the mods and fellow-sufferers on the exmo sub. Begin Rant: I've had a bunch of posts deleted from the Reddit exmormon group. The posts have related to fun stuff I've created permanently banned - they claimed I was trying to sell something , so I created a new Reddit identity - and to saying challenging ex-Mormon neo-orthodoxy. I can liken it to "liberal intolerance" - meaning intolerance of people with any "conservative" points of view. I posted something in the group to start a dialogue about this but, predictably, the mods deleted it. Don't get me wrong - I like the free exchange of ideas - NOT the quashing of dissent. I had recently written on my blog about the experience of Dr. John Dehlin, a 6 th generation Mormon, who eventually left the Church. This was the perfect time to have an open forum to address the authoritarian tactics used by the Mormon Church and the difficulties members face when they decide to leave.
